Sailing Strategy Challenge 2011

The Sailing Strategy Challenge Event presents a unique opportunity for participants to compete in a complex, dynamic and unpredictable environment. Participants are coached in the art of competitive sailing and take command of a 67ft round the world racing yacht for the day of their challenge.

The event has been run, globally, for over six years with hundreds of teams competing to win the annual trophy or beat the existing world record. Teams from all sectors of industry have competed in Long Island Sound New York, Hong Kong Harbour, the Firth of Clyde and The Solent UK. Regardless of venue, weather, tidal influences or crew experience every team has a chance to compete at the highest level.

The Sailing Strategy Challenge is a specific 2½ hour task in which a combination of course strategy, navigation skills, weather forecasting, crew skill and team commitment play a significant part in the overall result. Every crewmember, regardless of age, gender or experience, has the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the team’s success.

This is a complex, engaging and fun challenge with something for everyone. The yacht(s) set their SMART objectives and aim for an agreed score. Team success requires collaboration, communication and teamwork out on the water. The crew have to plan and execute their solutions to the problems requiring ongoing discussion, assessment and agreement to achieve the required result. The crew need to be resourceful, creative and cohesive in order to succeed.
